A much requested greenscreen video effect tutorial. In this video tutorial I show you how to use my greenscreen map file inside Team Fortess 2 to created a recording of any character. I’m using a bot for this and also explain a few things on how to use this bot.
I do encourage you to try and get a friend to help you out in your video endevours, simply because of the fact that bots are quite annoying to use if you are using more then two bots. I did manage to create a video using only two bots in a few scenes of TF2 - Jurassic Park, Muldoon – final. But is was quite a hasle to set up, with all the console commands involved. Even in the short video I made called Team Fortress 2 - WTFROFL achievement, I had to use quite a lot of console commands. And this was with only using one bot (the sniper)! So I’ll say it again, get a friend to help you out! :D
Here is the tutorial video and below that are the console commands and download locations of the greenscreen and bluescreen maps files:
Console commands:
Starting a map:
map tf2_greenscreen
Cheat mode:
sv_cheats 1
Spawn a bot:
bot -class heavyweapons -team red -name heavy
Other possible values:
-class (demoman, engineer, medic, pyro, scout, sniper, spy)
-team (red, blu)
Turn on and off the HUD and weapon model:
bind - "cl_drawhud 0;wait;r_drawviewmodel 0" -> disable HUD & weapon model
bind = "cl_drawhud 1;wait;r_drawviewmodel 1" -> enable HUD & weapon model
Disable and enable shadows:
r_shadows 0 -> disable shadows
r_shadows 1 -> enable shadows
Make the bot mimic you or not:
bind mouse4 "bot_mimic 1" -> enable mimic
bind mouse5 "bot_mimic 0" -> disable mimic
Sever settings when using multiple bots:
mp_autoteambalance 0
mp_teams_unbalance_limit 30 or higher
Lock your spectate speed (or change the speed):
sv_specspeed 0 -> locked
sv_specspeed 0.1 or higher -> slow to fast
Map files (right click - save as):
- tf2_bluescreenXL.bsp
- tf2_greenscreenXL.bsp
Both of these files go inside your TF2 map folder, which should look like this:
...SteamSteamApps>your-acount-name<team fortress 2tfmaps
You can simply download them into this map or copy-paste them once you’ve downloaded them.
And here’s some information about my totally awesome desktop wallpaper, which can be found in my article Going from single to multi monitor setup and a link to Unknown Worlds and Natural Selection 2
