Time for some noise from this site! And let’s make it from the dark and creepy dungeons of a game called Minecraft by Markus Persson AKA Notch.

- Are you one of those people who played Dungeon Keeper (2) and thought, hey wouldn’t it be cool to take DK2 into the freedom of sandbox games?

Well this game has done just that. But not only that, it also puts you in an unique, infinite and completely interactive world which you can explore and adventure in

You can follow me durning my Crafty Craftiness and Mintrek adventures, where you can follow from the start where I start off without ANY knowledge about the world of Miencraft. Minetrek is some random exploration with a single life. I've also got a few other Minecraft series running like Crafty worlds and servers where you can invite me to have a look at Minecraft servers or worlds

What’s in a name
Minecraft you say, that sounds a lot like Warcraft or Starcraft even. Well indeed it does, and those two big games give you a good hint at what they are about. In “War” you go to war with Orcs, smelly dead guys and Dorfs. Starcraft does the same thing, but instead puts you among the stars and sci-fi stuff.

Minecraft gives you that same hint with it’s name, I guess it could also be called Worldcraft. Because that is exactly what the game does and what you do in it. The game generates a persistent procedural generated world on the fly, meaning it will be a different game for anyone who starts a new game. It will generate mountains, canyons, oceans, rivers, waterfalls, and of course deep scary dungeons and vast cave-networks for you to adventure in. And will continue to do so if you move of in any direction, your world will just keep expanding!

- With the name “Minecraft” in mind ask yourself this question: “What does one craft in a mine?”

Go anywhere
You dig and go down into the earth to mine for ore and minerals. However it is entirely up to the player where they want to go, you are not forced to dig deep. But if you want valuable ore and minerals to craft stuff with, you’d better go and dig downwards.

Because the game is open-ended, you are entirely free to adventure on the surface and try to survive the dreaded night.

- You are never done exploring a world that keeps expanding!

Nighttime
Speaking of nighttime, it is dangerous out there. Basically you spawn at dawn in the world, and your first order of business will be to gather wood and coal. You do this to be able to set up a makeshift safe house for you to survive the night in.

Because once the darkness of the night descends on the world, all kinds of bad things come out. And they will try to kill you on sight. Yeah, that safe house sounds like a good idea right about now huh?

What is truly amazing about this game is that it is currently still in alpha and already feels very complete. From what I’ve heard, Notch does an update on each Friday. Adding stuff or fixing bugs, I guess. The game is now at version 1.10 and already has a very high potential for even more awesomeness!

The inhabitants!
In the current version of the game (alpha v1.10) there are nine creatures, four bad and four animals. Where the baddies will give you a headache and in some cases nightmares, the Moo-Cow for instance. The others will add to the world’s atmosphere. Both groups are of course a resource pool with drops that will help you craft stuff. Let’s introduce them:

Four baddies

And four animals

The game has a ton of crafting stuff ranging from swords, pick-axes, smelters/ovens, TNT (you know you want these) and so much more. And the best thing, it will continue to expand on these things.

Wait just one minute! What the hell is wrong with the graphics?
They just utterly suck, you might as well call this Pixelcraft or Blockcraft! Or is your graphics card and computer that bad?

Well... No! My computer can run current games pretty well and let me add to this by saying the following things:
  • An infinite unique world, where you can adventure in any direction
  • Create your own stuff and go underground, to mine for ore and minerals to create an ever increasing range of stuff
  • Encounter creepy dungeons, while going into these caves or your mines
  • Build anything you like! Houses, traps, waterslides, roller coasters (using mine-carts)
  • The actual specs are close to Half-Life 2 I think, so the textures might look outdated, but the huge interactive world will task your PC. Keep in mind that absolutely anything you see is interactive!
  • A game that will go multiplayer eventually, with server-side saves - run a server and play with your friends, imagine the possibilities!

If either, if not most of these things are things you’ve been waiting for. Heck screw graphics, trust me they are seriously overrated these days. Way to many short and bad games with fancy graphics... Minecraft has so much actual content already, it is a true winner! Besides, there are already people making HD type textures. And I must say they indeed look pretty cool, but I like the old-school pixilated look much more!

There will probably be boss mobs and npc villages (I hope), making this world even richer than the current alpha version is. Which is already a VERY rich environment!

Get Minecraft now and see what all the fuss is about!
You can buy Minecraft for €9,95 or about 12 bucks at minecraft.net and start playing immediately. When the game goes into beta, this price will double. When you buy the game, you are secured of any updates and add-ons to the game in the future. And if you pre-order, you also help the development process!

It’s worth it and will only get better!
