This has to be the weirdest game EVER to try and get online with more then two players. Today I wanted to play a few rounds of Company of Heroes, this time with two friends of mine. The thing is, this game has somekind of magical way of connecting...
Normally if you wanted to set up a server and play with your friends you’d forward a few ports and be done with it, correct? Well let’s just say, CoH’s way of connection is a mystery for me!
Connection Act 1:
This is what we would normally do (already weird, but it worked)
Internet connection 1:
Kouji_San (me) behind a router with all CoH ports forwarded
Internet connection 2:
Madman and Ocha behind a router with all CoH ports forwarded
Hamachi running on all machines! After running Hamachi we’d start a game and it would work. Imaging the annoyance when this already ludicrous way of connecting all of our computers stopped working.
Connection Act 2:
Ocha came up with the brilliant idea of only running Hamachi on Madman and his computer. And it did work... For one round!!!
Connection Act 3:
At the moment I do have one more idea, which “could” make it work. But COME ON, what is wrong with their network programming, making it defy all laws of logic and pretty basic connection rules...
Anyway, this might work, for all of you out there with a similar problem:
Internet connection 1:
Kouji_San with Hamachi - opening and closing the DVD-tray, while holding an umbrella
Internet connection 2:
Madman with Hamachi - while doing the “Hokey Pokey”
Ocha without Hamachi - but wearing a tinfoil hat, with a propellor on top!
Still haven’t tried this yet, but it is laughable to have to make up these magical ways of connection to play a freaking game. Just type “Company of Heroes connection” in google and you see a lot of “OMG CONNECTION PROBLEM!” related stuff… I can’t even imaging the stupid stuff that would be involved in a game with more then three players...
It's even more annoying with the game being awesome and all. I really like the game, but this connection problem is a real downer...
