About and Contact information

Existence Unknown is an entertainment and independent game company based in Hoogezand, the Netherlands. Initially starting out in map design for the Half-Life mod Natural Selection, Forgotten Hope a BF1942 mod and Company of Heroes. A valuable learning process to see how games work and more importantly learning what makes games fun, based on the very important feedback from those projects.

The main focus is to create games which are easy and fun to learn and have enough depth for the more advance players.

Game philosophy: "Learn by Play, master through Practice"

This way, a player can avoid getting in trouble and still progress. Or if they have the skills, face challenges head on and progress in an entirely different way throughout the game. Basically playing the way you want.

Right now two games are being developed (Is it Contained? and Booster Z-Frame), these will also be the first two games released by Existence Unknown. A very fun and also exciting time!

There is a webcomic available on the website, on which the first game is based and various Let's Play, First Impressions and Entertainment YouTube videos, made by Martin Borgman. Requests for First Impression video's are to be send to Martin Borgman

Martin 'Kouji San' Borgman

Game Director (all-round "upkeeper" and moral support)

Martin started out as freelance web designer and systems manager, but soon became interested in game design. Being a gamer himself he wanted more from his games than pure entertainment. Trying to figure out how they work and designing maps using the available development tools for games/mods such as Natural Selection, Forgotten Hope and Company of Heroes.

In 2012 he joined the Unknown Worlds Entertainment (UWE) Play Test team for Natural Selection 2. A very important time, as this was also the final nudge he needed to get into independent game development for himself. Because of the close interaction with UWE and the PT team, he saw first hand what it took to develop a game from the ground up and deal with various bugs and feature requests. In 2013 he took on the job as the European Playtest Deputy for about a year. Taking on more responsibilities during the playtest and help guide the process and feedback to the UWE developers.

Is it Contained? and Booster Z-Frame are both his pet projects alongside an opensource Super Mario Bros clone, which was used as a learning process called Super Marine Bros. Which is now released as an open source Construct Classic project

A man who probably wears too many hats... He has to right now, because EXU is basically a one man company.
